What have You got to Say for Yourself?

Alright ladies (and any gentlemen) me and my sister have enjoyed making our first tutorials, and though we have some ideas of our own, do you have any suggestions?

Feel free to recommend vintage (me/sis) or non-vintage tutorials (sis).

I know that I want to do...

Pan Am girls (we will probably both do these),

maybe Mad Men,

Gwen Stefani (Cool Video - blonde), and various others.

Also, if you haven't already checked out our tutorials, here are the links. Oh, and please leave any comments/suggestions :)

On a side note, a wonderful blogger who does the most AMAZING Betty Draper hair is Pia Storm over at  Storms Magasin ... swoon!

I left her a comment asking how she did it, and she replied with "Just pin curls, pin curls, pin curls - just like Betty :)"

...Yes! below is Pia's hair!

Modern Beehive (Video Tutorial)

Here is another hair tutorial - A modern 60s beehive that my sister has been wearing.
Please note that is is *inspired* after the 60s beehive, but is in no way meant to be a tutorial for a 60s beehive.

We decided to start making tutorials as I have been wanting to for awhile now. My lovely boyfriend got me a camera for my birthday which records pretty well, but all the "mediums/loops" I have to run the video through to get it uploaded is really leaving the video quality crummy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

...so stay tuned for more  :)

Diana Dors Hair Tutorial (Video)

I finally got around to uploading the Diana Dors inspired hair tutorial.
For some reason, the resolution is kinda (really) crappy.
Let me know what you think in the comments.

The Look is inspired by this picture...

Update and Upcoming Tutorial

Again I begin another post with an apology for my absence. I have been buys with school, but I still keep with with all of your blogs (and others who don't follow me) though I rarely comment.

I have some news! I broke my other camera, so I was unable to take pictures, and though I have my webcam, it is really insufficient. However, for my birthday, my boyfriend surprised me with a new camera with better quality photos.
I have been doing my hair in pillow-type rollers, and the result has been (discovered yesterday) quite Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth) from Beyond the Sea! I hope to do a tutorial sometime after Monday of next week as I have my finals next Monday. So expect a (video) tutorial around the last week of March.

Update: While I taped the tutorial for this, it did not turn out well, but check out my other tutorials:

Apology and an Award :)

I have been such a bad little blogger! Sadly, it is mainly in part due to the fact that I have only VERY limited access to the Internet now :(

Anyhow, I was awarded the "One Lovely Blog Award"!!! from La Dama of Vintage Passions Just Like Mine. I just adore her blog, and for you curvy gals out there that are into vintage, check her out! ( I hope she doesn't mind me using one of her pics ~ What a beauty!)

Attempting the ... Jayne Mansfield

The other night instead of studying, I was attempting the Jayne Mansfield! Jayne is one of my favorite blond bombshells, and I just adore her hair and makeup looks. I first discovered Jayne from the movie The Jayne Mansfield Story portrayed by Loni Anderson. Honestly, I thought Anderson was on the annoying side, but it is still a fun/sad movie to watch. I am going to rent The Girl Can't Help It, and see about watching it with my mother in law tomorrow for Mothers Day! On the web, you can watch it free here.

For the hair, I rolled the hair using Con-Air hot rollers with the smaller barreled curlers at the front and the bigger ones in back. I then took them out and began "picking" them apart with a comb and fingers. I then used a round brush to help roll the various sections.

Makeup was L'oreal Intense Carbon black eyeliner and Mac's Russian Red lippie.

If anyone knows of a good Jayne tutorial on the web, Please let me know! pixi2woo did a fantastic tutorial on Jayne...go take a look!

Thanks for taking a look!

*Please note: all background pics/borders are not my own. If you would like to know where I found them or own them and would like me to remove them, please email or leave a comment.

Valentine's Day Hair Tutorial

Lately I have been attempting the Veronica Lake and Dita von Teese hairstyles, and feeling as though I am coming up short. Here is one attempt I did a few weeks back.

1. Roll hair in Hot Sticks or rollers
2. Brush hair out
3. To get pageboy (w/the sides) use a round brush
4. Style the rest of your hair as you see fit.

I have been really failing at trying those dang waves that Dita sports so often! If anyone has a tip on how to do this, please leave a comment below!!!

Perhaps my hair is too damaged! :( It is damaged to the point that "normal" hot rollers lose their curl completely after 15 minutes, and hot rollers last about an hour. To get my hair to hold a curl I have to sleep on rollers which I have been neglecting lately.

I sure look like a sour-pus in these photos, but they seem the best out of the bunch 8)

True Blood's Queen Sophie

I first read the book after hearing that if you liked Twilight that you would like this book. I read Dead Before Dark before I saw the series, and I liked it...I didn't love it like I loved Twilight. To me, True Blood is an adult series while Twilight is more for teens. BTW, the book and the series don't follow very closely, so if you have read the book first some of the inconsistencies may drive you nuts!
That being said, on one of the last few episodes (errr season 3?!?) Queen Sophie quickly became the star, even though she was only in a few episodes for a short period of time. Her perfectly placed luscious red hair, smokey vintage makeup, and simple 40s style had me drooling...to me she epitome of a vintage glamor girl. Queen Sophie is played by the lovely Evan Rachael Wood who has been known to wear vintage in her daily life.
The hair and makeup look simple enough to accomplish and could be worn day or night...just add a change of clothes and you will be stylish all day long ;)

Here is my Diana Dors Hair Tutorial which is more-or-less the same style - just pin the sides up with a bobby pin or hair comb. I will try to do an appropriate one soon!

Additionally, BerlinHairBaby has a hair tutorial on Queen Sophie. Also, check out her blog for makeup and hairstyling tips here.
