Halloween 2012

Hi Everyone! This is Dallas (the sister). I thought I would post some of our pictures from Halloween. Let us know what you think  :)

I {far left} was broken doll. I used black liner to create the dark "cracks" on my face, our friend was Wednesday Adams {from the Adam's Family}, and Kasandra was going for the Marilyn Monroe dia de las muertos {day of the dead} look that is was popular with the wallets you see in Spencer and Hot Topic.

What did you guys do for Halloween?

Alice Eve ~50's Bombshell Inspired Hair Tutorial

Hello everyone!

I have another vintage inspired hair tutorial for you. After watching Sanni's (missmai27 on youtube) makeup/hair tutorial on Alice Eve inspired by the Tattler photo shoot. I was so inspired by her video that I decided to make one of my own.

I absolutely love Sanni's makeup tutorials! She has done some fantastic looks like: Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, tons of 60s inspired looks, and so many others. I highly recommend that you take a look at her channel if you already haven't :)

I am VERY awkward in the video. I ended up filming two, and this is the first one. I think I accidentally deleted the second which came out much better, sorry! Eventually I will get it down, practice makes perfect right?!

Here is a link to the inspirational Alice Eve Tattler photo shoot

On a side note, I have been steering away from my vintage look for a bit and have been doing a glam rock makeup/hair look the past few weeks...just feeling like I need a change for a bit. Would anyone be interested in those videos?

What have You got to Say for Yourself?

Alright ladies (and any gentlemen) me and my sister have enjoyed making our first tutorials, and though we have some ideas of our own, do you have any suggestions?

Feel free to recommend vintage (me/sis) or non-vintage tutorials (sis).

I know that I want to do...

Pan Am girls (we will probably both do these),

maybe Mad Men

Gwen Stefani (Cool Video - blonde), and various others.

Also, if you haven't already checked out our tutorials, here are the links. Oh, and please leave any comments/suggestions :)

~~~
On a side note, a wonderful blogger who does the most AMAZING Betty Draper hair is Pia Storm over at  Storms Magasin ... swoon!
I left her a comment asking how she did it, and she replied with "Just pin curls, pin curls, pin curls - just like Betty :)"
...Yes! below is Pia's hair!
Modern Beehive (Video Tutorial)
Here is another hair tutorial - A modern 60s beehive that my sister has been wearing.
Please note that is is *inspired* after the 60s beehive, but is in no way meant to be a tutorial for a 60s beehive.
We decided to start making tutorials as I have been wanting to for awhile now. My lovely boyfriend got me a camera for my birthday which records pretty well, but all the "mediums/loops" I have to run the video through to get it uploaded is really leaving the video quality crummy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
...so stay tuned for more  :)
I finally got around to uploading the Diana Dors inspired hair tutorial.
For some reason, the resolution is kinda (really) crappy.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
The Look is inspired by this picture...
Mugging it up in the Bathroom
My sad attempt at a post to keep from not posting for months. Spring quarter begins Monday, so we'll see how much I can post and how frequently.
My results after brushing my hair after using Hot Rollers. It falls flat so fast that if I want a good curl, and I want it to last I must sleep in rollers.
A close up of a dress clip I recently found at the Goodwill.
Here is a better view of the makeup. Basically a cut crease. I found a fantastic set of 1936 dress clips recently for $2.99 whoaza what a steal! The little rhinestones shine so brightly that they give the sun a run for its money :)
Good night!
9th Year Anniversary
Tuesday was the 9th year anniversary with the honey!
However, like the ever forgetful dingbat that I am, I forgot to take pictures up til after we got home and started to watch Dreamcatcher.
Dreamcather is the first movie we saw 9 years ago, and marks the date of our anniversary, so every year we watch it in the evening before falling asleep.
This year we actually managed to finish the entire movie!
Pan Am ~ Style Secrets
I may be late on the bandwagon, but I started watching Pan Am last night, and I can't stop watching! The styling is amazing! During each episode, I really feel that I am transported back in time.
Though the story lines can be a bit predictable, and after four episodes, the plots are more or less the same, but I still can't want to see the next, and see the styling for the ladies in a different part of the world.
Patricia Regan does a fantastic job on styling the ladies and gentlemen of Pan Am. You can read an interview and some of the makeup she uses on Christina Ricci for the show here.
  • MAC's gel liner in Blacktrack.
  • MAC Fleur or Peaches blusher.
  • L'Oreal Voluminous mascara or Dior Iconic
{Source ~ Lipstick and Cake}
Here is a site for Laura's makeup! (I just adore her style, definitely my fav!)
  • Armani’s lasting silk foundation
  • Mac fleur power blush
  • Three Custom cool sky eye shadow
  • Mac rapidblack penultimate eye liner
  • Shiseido black mascara
  • EOS honeysuckle lip balm.
I really hope that the rumors of the show being canceled are not true :(
I was heartbroken to learn the Playboy Club was canceled after only a few episodes. I LOVED that show.
As a side note, apparently Revlon's Persian Melon (now Blase Apricot), use to be the standard for the Pan Am stewardists according to My Beauty Blackbook. Though both shades are still sold today, Persian Melon from the 60s is now Blase Apricot-a peachy color, and the Persian Melon we see today is more of a midtoned cool pink.
Mad Men Styling Secrets
In the latest Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide June/July 2012 (pg 110-111), there is a Mad Men makeup/hair secrets.
BettyFrancis (January Jones):
  • January's hair is set using a small curling iron and finished with White Sands settinbg spray, Kerastase hairspray and lots of teasing. Owen's notes that her hair pretty much falls into the Betty haristyle.
  • Additionally, "She has a single process blonde. "
  • A matte foundation and "pink lipstick like MAC Impassioned" are used to achieve the Betty look.
Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks):
  • To achieve the Joan look, a curl set and and three-quarter length wig are used, as only "the outer edges and bangs are her own hair."
  • In the office she is more conservative, but at night she is a little more Brigitte Bardot-like."
  • "Christina's roots are touched up using Redkin haircolor."
  • Joan's staple lip is "Laura Mercier lipstick in Baby Lips-an orangey-pink."
Peggy Olsen (Elezabeth Moss):
  • "Peggy's hair is curled into the Peggy flip, and a lot of hairspray is used to coerce into the Peggy style as Moss's hair is very fine and straight."
  • Her makeup is made to look as though she has not yet mastered the putting on makeup look. "Her lips are a natural pink tone, and Julie Hewett Cheekie is used on her cheeks."
.
These facts are from the show's Hair Department's Head Terrie Owen, and Makeup Department Head Lana Horochowski.
The Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide has become a great source for beauty secrets for some of my favorite stars. I highly recommend checking out this bimonthly magazine.
Note: I am not sponsored or being paid to write anything about this magazine.
Update and Upcoming Tutorial
Again I begin another post with an apology for my absence. I have been buys with school, but I still keep with with all of your blogs (and others who don't follow me) though I rarely comment.
I have some news! I broke my other camera, so I was unable to take pictures, and though I have my webcam, it is really insufficient. However, for my birthday, my boyfriend surprised me with a new camera with better quality photos.
I have been doing my hair in pillow-type rollers, and the result has been (discovered yesterday) quite Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth) from Beyond the Sea! I hope to do a tutorial sometime after Monday of next week as I have my finals next Monday. So expect a (video) tutorial around the last week of March.
Update: While I taped the tutorial for this, it did not turn out well, but check out my other tutorials:
